Leeds United transfer rumours as Raphinha tipped for La Liga move

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours on Thursday, February 17.

Raphinha backed to snub Liverpool

Leeds United winger Raphinha has been tipped to turn down Liverpool in favour of a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is the Whites' top scorer this season with eight goals in 21 appearances and his form has attracted interest from some of the top clubs in Europe.

Liverpool have expressed an interest in Raphinha, who has two and a half years left on his current contract, while Bayern Munich are also thought to be keen.

However, former Manchester United midfielder Klebberson believes that Raphinha would be better suited making the switch to La Liga with Real Madrid or Barcelona.

“It’s going to be really hard for Leeds United to keep Raphinha,” Kleberson told Paddy Power.

“A few months ago, many people thought that he was a good player, but he wasn’t rated that highly.

“However, after scoring for the Brazilian national team and emerging as Leeds’ best player, people are now talking about him.

“It’s going to be really hard for Leeds to keep him because there will be offers.

“Brazilians are always looking for a move away and a new challenge. They do well - then they look for their next challenge.

“He will leave the Premier League, but it would be hard for him to move to a Champions League club and receive the same amount of game time.

“I like the way he plays. But when I watch him in the Premier League and for the Brazilian national team, he is a different player.

“His style would suit a team in La Liga so I could see him moving to Spain.”

Leeds plotting Castellanos move

Leeds United are reportedly plotting a move to sign New York City forward Valentin Castellanos ahead of a potential summer transfer.

That's according to Argentine outlet La Página Millonaria, who claim that the Whites are in a battle with River Plate to bring in Castellanos.

It is understood that Castellanos is keen on a move to River Plate, but Leeds are hoping to pursuade the striker to join the Whites instead given his impressive goal return in the MLS.

They claim that Leeds have contacted with an expression of interest in the 23-year-old, with an offer of £10.3million their current valuation.

In the 2021 campaign, Castellanos featured 35 times for City, netting 22 goals and registering eight assists.

Arsenal keen on Phillips

Arsenal are supposedly one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The 26-year-old is said to be on the Gunners' shortlist as they aim to strengthen their midfield and he's a player Ben White has said he learned from during his time at the Whites.

90Min claim that Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United are keen on Phillips, who has been out injured since December with a hamstring injury.

According to the Mirror, Leeds would be tempted to accept a fee of around £60million for the England international following an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

However, the Gunners are expected to bolster their ranks in the summer after failing to add anyone in January, with Phillips a potential target.
