Leeds United transfer rumours as PSV 'have to' sell Whites target Cody Gakpo

Here is the Leeds United morning transfer gossip for Saturday, October 8.

PSV 'have to' sell Whites target Gakpo to escape financial trouble

PSV could be forced to sell star winger Cody Gakpo by next summer to escape financial trouble - something Leeds United could jump at the chance to get done.

The Whites came very close to sealing a deal with the 23-year-old in the summer even trying to secure his signature as late as deadline day, but Gakpo decided to stay at PSV to secure his place in the Netherlands national team for the 2022 World Cup that begins in November.

It's safe to say that place is secured after his incredible start to the season, as he's scored 12 goals and managed 10 assists in his first 15 games in all competitions this campaign.

According to Dutch football website Voetbal Interntional, via SoccerNews, PSV are currently without a technical director after the sacking of John de Jong but whoever succeeds him will have a big task on their hands.

"Just as the successor of the departed John de Jong must also sell Cody Gakpo and/or Ibrahim Sangaré before July 1st next year because of the club's financial situation.

"He should also be the much-needed sounding board for the current head coach when it comes to game and player development and performance."

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson excited over Whites target Ryan Kent development

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that the Whites should take a 'really good deal' for Rangers winger and Leeds transfer target Ryan Kent in January.

Kent has made 12 appearances so far this season and has scored one goal while supplying four assists but has thoroughly impressed during his time at Ibrox having 82 goal involvements in 186 appearances.

Talking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said how much of a fan he was of the Englishman and confirms that Leeds have had interest in him for a while now.

“Leeds have looked at Kent for a long time. He was a player who was wanted by the previous regime under Bielsa and he’s obviously someone they’ve tracked closely in the last two seasons.

“It’s obvious he’s now going to leave Rangers coming into the last six to eight months of his contract but I wouldn’t be in favour of paying money for him now when his contract expires next year.

“He’ll be a very good addition to the Leeds squad if you look at it now but he’s not a player who needs to come in during January. The club don’t need to spend any type of money for him and they should compete for his signature at the end of the season.

“I’m sure there will be other clubs looking at him but any price-tag Rangers will put on him will people off because he’s going into the last six months of his contract.

“It’ll have to be a really good deal for a team to take him in January but it’s quite clear his time at Rangers is coming to an end and there’ll be no shortage of takers for him.

“He’s a top player.”
