Leeds United transfer rumours as Mikel Arteta 'blocked' Whites move for Arsenal midfielder

Your Leeds United transfer round-up for Thursday, February 10.

Man United seek out alternative Phillips target

Man Utd will turn their attention towards Leciester’s Yuri Tielemans after being rejected by Kalvin Phillips, according to The Daily Star.

The report claims Phillips is leaning towards signing a new deal at Elland Road and would be hesitant about joining Man Utd due to the animosity between both clubs.

Phillips, who was born in Leeds, has not played since the Whites’ 2-2 draw against Brentford on December 5 as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Elneny to Elland Road ‘blocked’

Leeds were blocked from signing Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny on loan last month, according to the player’s agent.

Marcelo Bielsa was reportedly in the hunt for a midfielder in January and Elneny - who starred in Egypt’s AFCON final defeat to Senegal - has made just seven appearances under Mikel Arteta this season.

The Gunners boss let Callum Chambers, Sead Kolašinac and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang depart but refused to allow a midfielder to leave due to a lack of options.

Speaking to Turkish outlet Sporx, Alan Nazmy said: “(Elneny) stayed in the team because Arteta did not want to sell.”

Newcastle and Watford were also keen on signing the 29-year-old.

Rubin Kazan director dangles Leeds carrot

Rubin Kazan’s sporting director Oleg Yarovinsky has urged Leeds to return with a bid for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the summer.

Both the Whites and Spurs were reportedly keen on signing the highly-rated winger last month, but neither club matched the Russian club’s asking price.

However, Leeds have been told the 20-year-old - who has two years on his current deal - is still in the shop window.

He told Sport24 : “(The) two top clubs in the Premier League, if one of them came up with a final offer for Khvicha, we would sell him one hundred percent.

“Khvicha is a super-talented football player who will definitely move to a top European club. I told him (in the summer); ‘If there is an offer, we will let you go.”
