Leeds United transfer rumours as Man City's James McAtee told to join Whites

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Saturday, 30 July.

Quinones links

Leeds are interested in Julian Quinones, according to French publication Foot Mercato. His fellow countryman Luis Sinisterra joined Leeds from Feyenoord earlier this summer but sustained a hamstring injury in the Whites’ 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in Perth.

Quinones is very popular with Jesse Marsch and has also been offered to several Ligue 1 clubs with Strasbourg also interested.

The 25-year-old joined Mexican side Atlas in 2021 and has scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 42 appearances. He was voted in the Liga MX team of the season and has spent the entirety of his career in Mexico.

The former Colombia U20 international started his career Tigres UANL, where he spent the best part of five years. He also took in loan spells with Venados and Lobos BUAP, scoring 17 league goals in 28 appearances with the latter.

Gelhardt on ‘verge’ of new deal

Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt is on the verge of signing a new five-year deal, according to Team Talk editor James Marshment.

Marshment also claims that the 20-yer-old could be set for a 55% pay rise, while talks are also progressing at tying Crysencio Summerville down to a new deal.

Gelhardt joined Leeds from Wigan Athletic in 2020, after making 21 appearances for the Latics in his first two seasons in senior football. He was reduced to just one single appearance in his debut campaign but featured 23 times last term, scoring twice, as Patrick Bamford missed the majority of the campaign with injury.

Leeds ‘best’ destination for McAtee

Pundit Kevin Campbell insists that Leeds United would be the ‘best’ destination for Manchester City attacker James McAtee. The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that City will consider letting McAtee leave on loan if clubs can guarantee that he will play.

Speaking to the Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton forward said: “I tell you why, this is where he wants to cut his mustard. This is where he need to prove himself. It’s not the same going out to Spain. If you can get in and play in the Premier League, that would be best.

“Yes, those clubs are not a Man City but you are playing against top clubs week in, week out. Pep Guardiola needs to know you can cut it.

“You learn about a player’s character when the chips are down. Do you still do the right things when you are 3-0 down? Are you still working?

“I think he has a lot of good choices but I think Leeds would be best. He would get game time there next season.”
