Leeds United transfer rumours as fresh reports link Newcastle United with Kalvin Phillips

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Sunday, 10 April 2022.

Newcastle reportedly ready for Phillips swoop

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to make a move for Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips. The 26-year-old has been linked with an array of clubs and according to the i, the Magpies are keen.

The report claims Phillips would cost 'around £60m' and that he is holding out for a new contract which reflects his current status as a key player for England. Manchester United and Aston Villa are also named as interested parties, although Leeds are said to be planning to offer a new deal to the popular homegrown midfielder.

Midfielder Leeds reportedly rejected given Man United lifeline

Leeds United were reportedly offered the opportunity to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek in the January transfer window. They opted against drafting in the Dutchman and his future at Old Trafford now appears brighter than it did when he was offloaded to Everton on loan.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, current Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has suggested van de Beek could still have a future at the club. Speaking about a potential revival, he said: "Why not? But it also depends on the new manager and the way he wants to play and for Donny. That is what he told me in conversations we had together. He told me he wants regular game-time to play in the World Cup."

McLeish makes Phillips prediction

Former Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish suspects Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips is holding out on a decision over his future in order to see what interest comes in the summer. The 26-year-old is a crucial figure at the heart of the Leeds midfield when fit and his growth over the last four years has caused his value to skyrocket.

McLeish's former employers Villa are among the clubs to have been linked with a swoop for the England international and the 63-year-old has weighed in on the midfielder's situation. Speaking to Football Insider, he said: "There’s so much uncertainty. The player himself will be in a conundrum – does he stay or does he go? I suspect he’ll be holding on to see what interest comes. Let’s face it, if Aston Villa come in then Phillips may well want to be part of that train which is taking Villa to new heights. That is food for thought for Villa, or possibly even a top-four club. The decision rests with the player and the people who surround him."
