Leeds United transfer rumours as fresh links to defender Josko Gvardiol emerge

Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours on Friday, April 15.

Leeds 'reignite Gvardiol interest'

Leeds United are reportedly again interested in a move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old has impressed for the German side this season and his form has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

The Croatian international has been a mainstay in the Leipzig side throughout the campaign as they challenge for a top-four spot in the Bundesliga. He has made 39 appearances in total, scoring twice after spending last season out on loan at Dinamo Zagreb.

According to Football Insider, Leeds have joined Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race to sign the talented centre-back. The Whites were previously linked to Gvardiol in 2019, however, they have never been able to get a deal over the line.

Now, this report suggests that the Whites are going to go back in to sign Gvardiol as they look to bolster their defensive options in the transfer window. Jesse Marsch worked with him during his time at Leipzig earlier in the season and this could help a potential move at the end of the season.

Ten Hag 'eyeing up Phillips'

Reported incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to be eyeing up a move for Kalvin Phillips in the summer. The Leeds United midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Whites, with the Red Devils, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Aston Villa all keen.

As per a new report from the Mirror, ten Hag, who is expected to be appointed as the club's next manager next week, wants Phillips and is shortlisted as one of the club’s "affordable" alternatives in the holding midfield position. Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans have also been named as potential options in that position.

The 26-year-old has played just 17 times this season after suffering a hamstring injury in Leeds' 2-2 draw with Brentford back in December. Having made his return to action on April 2, Phillips is expected to feature in the Whites' final six games as they push for survival. His form between now and the end of the season could be pivotal in where he plays his football next term.
