Leeds United transfer rumours as fresh links for in-demand midfielder emerge

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Thursday, 12 May.

Fresh O’Brien links

Leeds United are reportedly among a host of Premier League clubs looking to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien this summer. That is according to TeamTalk, who claim that Crystal Palace, Wolves, Burnley, Brighton and Southampton are also keen on the 23-year-old, who could be available for £12m.

O’Brien’s future will heavily depend on whether Huddersfield are able to secure promotion to the Premier League, as they begin their play-off campaign on Friday away at Luton Town. It is very possible that Town could be playing in the league above Leeds next season, though, which would almost certainly rule the Whites out of the race. Leeds were previously linked with O'Brien last summer.

Caprile dream

Leeds United goalkeeper Elia Caprile has revealed it is his dream to one day play for Napoli in front of his family. The young Italian shotstopper got his first taste of senior football this season as he joined Serie C – A side Pro Patria.

He initially joined the Whites from Chievo in January 2020 but will find himself behind both Illan Meslier and Kristoffer Klaesson upon his return to the club. At this stage it is unclear what Leeds’ plan for Caprile is, but in an interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio, he discussed why Napoli is his dream club.

He said: “I wanted to show everyone that I am capable of playing as a professional. He always told me what he thought. Straightforward and direct like me. It oscillates between ‘Elijah, you were great today’ and ‘what have you done?’,”

“As a young man he played at amateur levels as a defender, but when I was little, he trained me for a few years. My first goalkeeper coach was Steno, a seventy-year-old gentleman. He passed away during the lockdown when I was in England. After him there was my father.

“We studied training, videos, curiosities. He’s from Naples, I owe him everything, in fact my dream is to play at least one match for the Azzurri at ‘Diego Maradona’ with the whole family watching me.”
