Leeds United transfer rumours as 'confidence in Manchester' over Kalvin Phillips and RB Leipzig man linked

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Thursday, 16 June 2022.

‘Confidence in Manchester’ over Phillips move

While no official bid or approach has yet been made, Manchester City are ‘confident’ that they can seal a deal for Whites midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to the Athletic .

The Premier League champions want to add to the midfield after signing striker Eling Haaland for £65million, and they look to be readying a bit amid ‘confidence in Manchester’ that a deal will be done this summer.

Leeds are becoming increasingly aware of the likelihood that Phillips will leave and expect a bid from Pep Guardiola’s side sooner rather than later.

“City visualise a closing agreement of between £45 million and £50 million and there is confidence in Manchester that Phillips would push to take up the opportunity to join them if it’s presented.” They wrote.

Club ‘exploring’ Leipzig midfielder

If Phillips is to move on then those in charge at Elland Road will need to move quickly to replace him, with Leeds reportedly ‘exploring the possibility’ of RB Leipzig wantaway Tyler Adams, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 23-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and Germany and has already scoped out options, one being a reunion with the man who gave him his professional debut at New York Red Bulls, Jesse March.

“My feeling is yes, he is going to leave the club this summer.” Romano told the Que Golazo Podcast “At the moment there is still nothing agreed with any club, but many clubs are exploring this possibility, including Leeds, but at the moment still nothing agreed.

Whites eyeing nine-goal Schalke winger

Leeds United are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing Schalke 04 winger Rabbi Matondo, according to German media outlet BILD .

The 21-year-old spent last season on-loan at Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge, where he picked up nine goals and two assists in 26 league games.

The Whites face competition from Brentford and Nottingham Forest for the Welsh international who has a buyout clause of just £3million - but the German media reports are not promising.

“Matondo was not the hoped-for Schalke-Sancho, but a flop. In order to make the loan to Bruges clear last summer, sports director Rouven Schröder had to give him money.” they wrote.
