Leeds United transfer rumours as Cody Gakpo situation 'has now changed'

Here is your Leeds United transfer gossip and rumours on Friday, October 28.

Fabrizio Romano gives key details on Leeds United target Cody Gakpo

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided another big update on Leeds United's pursue of PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

The 23-year-old has been lighting up the Eredivisie, netting 13 goals and finding 13 assists in his 20 appearances in all competitions this season but could've been playing at Elland Road if Leeds had landed their main target in the summer transfer window.

The Whites were the frontrunners to land Gakpo's services earlier this year before he committed to PSV to secure his spot in the Netherlands World Cup squad next month.

Taking to social media, Romano confirmed that him moving to Elland Road is now 'unlikely' after clubs Gakpo would have more interest in have started to show their hands.

"Cody Gakpo is doing fantastic with PSV. His transfer situation has now changed: Leeds and Southampton wanted to bid again for January but that kind of move looks unlikely.

"Top European clubs are interested in signing Gakpo in 2023."

Victor Orta highlights how World Cup can help Leeds United stars' transfer value

Leeds United chief Victor Orta has said that he hopes his players that are travelling to the World Cup play well to 'revalue' themselves for interest in the January transfer window.

It's more than likely that several players are to head to the 2022 Qatar World Cup that begins next month, as Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson are certainties for the USA squad while Mateusz Klich is a regular for Poland and Diego Llorente and Rodrigo are options for Spain.

Speaking to an Argentinian newspaper earlier this week, Orta hopes that his players do well and can attract a lot of attention at this year's tournament.

"It sounds a bit selfish, but for your players to be revalued, ha. That’s the best thing that can happen to a manager. That the United States does phenomenally well, with Tyler Adams, with Brendan Aaronson.

"That Llorente can play for Spain and hopefully Rodrigo will come on board. That Mateusz Klich can play for Poland. All of this benefits us as a club.

"Because maybe they show themselves in a showcase of high performance and there are teams that place a lot of value on that. With Rasmus Kristensen in Denmark and so on."
