Leeds United transfer rumours as Adam Forshaw injury sees midfielder pursuit 'stepped up'

Here is your Leeds United transfer round-up on Tuesday, January 18.

Leeds 'make enquiry' for Championship defender

Djed Spence burst onto the scene in Nottingham Forest’s recent FA Cup win against Arsenal as he was awarded the man of the match award.

He couldn’t have timed his performance much better with the third round tie taking place just over a week into the January transfer window.

Unsurprisingly, the sharks have started to circle in the race for his signature and, according to Sky Sports, Leeds have made an enquiry for the 21-year-old right-back.

It isn’t actually Forest that the Whites have approached as he is currently spending the season on loan with the East Midlands club from Middlesbrough.

He had fallen out of favour at the Riverside under Neil Warnock but it now looks as though he could secure a move to the Premier League either this month or in the summer.

Whites 'to step up hunt for midfield reinforcements'

Leeds’ lack of depth in the midfield department has been laid bare for all to see this season with both Kalvin Phillips and Adam Forshaw currently out injured.

As it was in the summer, assessing that exact need for cover is said to be the main objective for the current window.

With nothing concrete coming from the first couple of weeks of the month, Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports has claimed that they will step up their search for reinforcements this week.

This may have been triggered by Forshaw’s injury in the win at West Ham, although this has been confirmed as minor by the player himself.

O’Hara encourages Spurs to chase Raphinha

In that game at the London Stadium, Raphinha showed once again why he is so important to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds team.

He laid on a perfectly-weighted assist for Jack Harrison’s third goal and was a thorn in the Hammers’ side all afternoon whilst also taking pressure off the understaffed Whites backline.

The Brazilian winger has been one of the stand-out players in the Premier League this season and Jamie O’Hara is a big admirer of his.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the ex-Spurs midfielder admitted that he is desperate for his former club to sign Raphinha.

“Jack Harrison got the hat-trick [against West Ham], but the star player was Raphinha,” he said. “He just glides past people, the way he moves.

“The free-kick he almost scored, just everything about his game. I’d love him at Spurs, I’d love him.

“But I don’t know if he’d ever come and Leeds definitely wouldn’t sell him, but brilliant player.”
