Leeds United target Calvin Ramsay handed advice as lofty prediction made

Former Aberdeen attacker Niall McGinn has claimed Leeds United target Calvin Ramsay has ‘all the ability in the world’. Ramsay is at the centre of a transfer tug of war between Leeds and treble chasing Liverpool as both sides look to prise him away from Aberdeen.

Ramsay is regarded as one of the best young full backs in Europe and was awarded with the Scottish Football Writers Association’s Young Player of the Year for his excellent performances across the season. The 18-year-old registered nine assists in all competitions and would help provide competition to both Cody Drameh and Luke Ayling if he makes the move to Leeds, though the latter is set to miss the next two to four months with injury.

McGinn witnessed Ramsay progressing through the ranks and into the first team prior to his move to Dundee in January. He thinks that as long as he remains grounded, the ‘sky is the limit’ for Ramsay as he closes in on a switch to the Premier League.

Speaking to the Scottish Daily Express, he said: “If you go on to a big team like Liverpool, Leeds, whatever you are going to be working with good managers and coaches on a full-time basis where you have the best of the best of everything. So it is important for him to just take everything in his stride and not get excited too soon.

“The sky’s the limit for Calvin. I have seen him develop as a young player coming in to be part of the first-team squad, training with them on a constant basis. Calvin has all the ability in the world so he just needs to listen to the right people, listen to his team-mates and the experienced players in the group.

“If he does that and keeps progressing as a young professional, he will set an example for other lads coming through. As long as he is willing to learn and listen to his fellow team-mates - and obviously the manager as well - then I am sure he will have no issues. He just needs to keep the head down.”
