Leeds United Brenden Aaronson played 69 minutes in the World Cup Qualifier between the USA and Canada last night.
The 21-year-old started for America and was one of the biggest attacking threats for USA, completing three dribbles, making one key pass and taking two shots. However, his performance wasn't enough as Canada came out 2-0 winners, with Kyle Larin - another player once linked to Leeds United opening the scoring.
Aaronson has been Victor Orta's top target this January window but it appears time has run out for the Whites to bring the player to Elland Road.
Ever since news first broke of RB Salzburg rejecting Leeds' first bid, noises coming out of Austria have suggested that Aaronson was not for sale. However, Leeds stuck at it and went back with a bid of over £20million.
This still did not convince the Austrian champions though, despite the fact that it would have been the fifth highest fee the club had ever received for a player. Instead, Aaronson left for international duty and no progress was made in negotiations to encourage Leeds to make a third bid for the player.
With Aaronson not signing, Leeds look set to go through the January window with no incomings, despite the severe injury crisis of the first half of the season meaning that at times they have had 11 first-team squad members unavailable and a subs bench filled with teenagers. As such, Marcelo Bielsa has given eight teenagers their Premier League debuts this season.
