Leeds United supporters split on Charlie Cresswell decision as Millwall lead Championship chase

Millwall are in talks with Leeds United over a loan deal for centre back Charlie Cresswell, according to reports. Cresswell revealed on international duty earlier this month he was keen for more regular game time and it appears as though he is set to be granted his wish as a temporary deal to the Championship is on the horizon.

The England U21 international made his breakthrough into Leeds’ first team last season as he made six appearances across all competitions, including five in the Premier League. However, just two of those came from the start, with the last of them coming in September.

Cresswell remains highly rated by both the club and supporters and so a loan move to the Championship would be the next step of his development. However, some fans are calling for him to be involved more for Leeds as early as next season, with some split on whether a loan move would be beneficial to the club in the short term.

@AnotherLeedsFan: “I’m sorry but Charlie Cresswell to Millwall isn’t the issue, the issue is him going out on loan at all! Looked more than comfortable when he’s been called upon and think he was worthy of a few more matches this year. I hope this isn’t the start of loan after loan.”

@pwilsonmusic: “Charlie Cresswell is at the very worst our third best CB. Why is he going on loan? Lad’s a pure beast.”

@DavidGoldstone1: “This kid is a star in waiting. Cannot believe they’re going to ship him out on loan.”

@johnsmithyboy87: “What a player. Gonna end up smashing it in the Champ, got the physicality for it too. Then he can kick on next year with us, can’t really complain just hopefully not Millwall.”

@Wessiewhite: “He’ll fit into that team if he goes there, he’s no nonsense and that’s how Millwall play anyway, a loan would do him good.”

@Kershaw444: “He is awesome, would be a right signing for them on loan.”

@TimHoolahan: “He doesn’t need a loan, he’s good enough now.”

@TrazRyan92: “Needs to go out on loan for a season, he’s not going to develop sitting on the bench making the odd cameo substitute appearance. Millwall would be the ideal fit for the lad imo. Has the potential to be class but needs a run of first team football.”

@JonesMartyn: “Be a good signing for them and set up to suit him, a good learning curve.”

@jasesteve: “Rather keep him. He should be up the pecking order imo.”
