Leeds United supporters react to reports linking Atletico Madrid star Matheus Cunha to Elland Road

Leeds United are expected to compete for the signature of Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian international has emerged as the leading candidate to help the Whites resolve their attacking depth issues, which has taken a hit this term due to the injuries suffered by Patrick Bamford.

As confirmed by the Athletic, the 23-year-old is a priority target for Leeds with David Ornstein noting the club are keen to not miss out on players before they become out of reach like they did with Dutch star Cody Gakpo.

Cunha has already previously worked under Jesse Marsch during their time together at RB Leipzig, which could have impacted Leeds' decision to pursue the Brazilian in January.

While Rodrigo has played well up front for the Whites this season, the reality is they must add another forward in the transfer window. Bamford's injury concerns mean they can no longer rely about the forward who scored 17 Premier League goals during the 2020/21 campaign for Leeds.

It would be a big move for Leeds to pull off but one they are certainly capable of doing.

And Whites supporters have taken to social media to offer their take on the reports linking Cunha to Elland Road...

@lufclund tweeted: "We need a striker. Not a winger who can play up front. We spent that on someone we don’t need who’s now out on loan. Striker And a Left Back priority. Even a CB would be nice."

@TunnyMOT tweeted: "Believe it when he lands at Leeds and Bradford"

@TekkyWhites tweeted: "Just get it done!! Missing the Brazilian magic."

@Lukechunknaylor tweeted: "Another one we won’t get but we’ll try so Radz can say 'we tried'".

@Sy_Robo tweeted: "I’m thinking we won’t sign anyone in this window. Anyone we do will be a bonus."

@Ethxnl7 tweeted: "Would be the perfect signing. A player who can play anywhere across the front three and has international/top level experience, whilst still being fairly young."
