Leeds United supporters react as U21s beaten 3-0 by Bolton Wanderers in Papa John's Trophy

Leeds United fans believe the U21s should be pleased with their efforts despite a 3-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers. The Whites suffered their first defeat of their Papa John's Trophy campaign away at the League One promotion hopefuls.

Michael Skubala's side were in the game for all of 75 minutes at the University of Bolton Stadium, in what was a young XI for Leeds. Joe Gelhardt, Wilfried Gnonto and Sam Greenwood were all involved in the 5-3 win at Tranmere Rovers two weeks ago, but not against Bolton this evening due to a first team game on Thursday, as well as a suspension for the latter.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Amadou Bakayoko and Kieran Sadlier were all on the scoresheet for the hosts, with Leeds now needing to win in some capacity in their final group game at Crewe Alexandra. Here is how the fans have reacted to the result.

@mightywhitespod: "U21s lose 3-0 at Bolton. First half pretty good, but Bolton got better second half and Leeds lost shape and looked like they tired a lot. Fair result, Leeds deserved a goal but Bolton comfortably better by the end."

@tommy_lufc: "Really credible effort from a diminished U21s side & based on how close a contest this was you can't help but wonder what might have been with even a couple of the senior U21s involved. We could yet qualify if they beat Crewe, which is not beyond the realm of possibility."

@peterhullah1: "Victory at Crewe will see us through."

@flyhsuk: "So glad the U21s as there to provide cover for the first team."

@Danny39098934: "And people are saying some of these lads are ready for the Prem, huge step up. U21s should go out on loan to Championship first."

@CainDRDZ: "But the U21s are the answer to our Premier League team?"
