Football fans have been left confused after learning Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips is being sold to Man City for £45million, just £5m less than City value Nathan Ake.
News broke on Friday afternoon of United and City agreeing a deal worth an initial fee of £42m with add-ons, ending the England international's stay with his homegrown club. Phillips made his way through the academy and helped Leeds gain promotion from the Championship and back into the Premier League in 2020.
Ake joined the Citizens in 2020 for £41m but rumours have surfaced recently that Pep Guardiola's side are ready to move on the Dutch international and are asking for around £50m, slightly more than what the reigning Premier League champions have paid for Phillips.
This has left a number of football fans questioning how has Phillips been sold for so little money in comparison, given that Phillips has emerged as one of the best players in his position in the league and has established himself as a guaranteed England starter when fit.
