Leeds United supporters discuss Cody Drameh's future amid January transfer window speculation

One of the issues Leeds United must resolve in the January transfer window is the future of right-back Cody Drameh.

Drameh spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City, producing a number of impressive performances in his Championship spell.

However, upon his return to Elland Road, he had his route to first team minutes blocked by the arrival of Rasmus Kristensen, who has been Jesse Marsch's first choice right-back this term.

With Luke Ayling also available to Marsch, Drameh finds himself third choice, with the young full-back having only made two first team appearances this term.

His lack of game time has led to question marks around his future with the Whites, with football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano recently tweeting Leeds are trying to fend off January interest from Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

The defender is out of contract in June 2024, meaning Leeds may end up having to sell him to avoid him choosing to leave Elland Road on a free.

While Drameh is clearly a talented player, it seems unlikely he will be afforded the game time he desires with Kristensen and Ayling favoured by Marsch. With the transfer window nearly upon Leeds, there's every chance Drameh's future could be resolved in the coming weeks.

And Whites supporters have taken to Reddit to discuss what Leeds should do with the 21-year-old right back...

The_L666ds commented: "Newcastle. Borussia Dortmund. Crystal Palace. What are these clubs seeing that we aren't?"

Zach-dalt commented: "I'd definitely want him to stay, but I don't see how we can guarantee him playing time, Ayling has been second-choice right-back all season and he's only picked up 150 league minutes, so even if Ayling is basically thrown out, I don't see Drameh getting significant time bar a Kristensen injury. Not sure why a loan isn't an option for us, it's been the best option for Drameh since the summer."

Ginge04 commented: "I’ve never been that impressed with him whenever he’s played. I’d take the money if any of these clubs are willing to take him in."

CC-W commented: "Should give him a run of games to start, he is no worse than Ayling and Kristensen hasn't made himself undroppable. He would actually give us some pace in defence too which we desperately need."

DEUK_96 commented: "He has 18 months on his contract so maybe the club are worried that if he has a good loan spell, he'll run his contract down and we won't be able to get a fee for him? Whereas if we give him gametime he might extend his contract. Idk though, personally think we should just sell now."

Ankh87 commented: "He'll be going out on loan. Ayling will be gone in the summer leaving only one right back if Drameh leaves. Either way at those clubs he's not going to get any game time."
