Leeds United supporters content with draw but frustrated by striker situation

Leeds United fans were content to pick up another point today in the battle against relegation but questioned the continued use of winger Dan James as a striker.

Leeds United took the lead thanks to a goal from Jack Harrison on 29 minutes. However, England midfielder James Ward-Prowse scored a tidy free-kick early in the second half to make it 1-1.

That was how the game finished, and though it was frustrating for Leeds to lose the lead, it meant seven points from three games. More good news came with the appearance of Kalvin Phillips as a substitute, plus a start for Liam Cooper.

The result left Leeds in 16th place, five points above 17th-placed Everton. Next weekend Leeds travel to Watford, who are eight points below the Whites in the third-bottom spot.

Despite the frustration of losing the lead, the culmination of points from three consecutive games left most Leeds United fans in a buoyant mood. Attention quickly turned to the important match against Watford.

One user, @BeestonWhites, tweeted: "Think it says a lot about our turnaround in form that we're gutted against a decent Saints side. Need to beat Watford next week. Played well today lads."

@Lufcburny said: "Frustrating after going one up but another point towards our end goal, nice to see Phillips & cooper back. We look so much more organised now."

@ihelpcp1 wrote: "Huge point. Yes it would have been nice to win but that point is huge in the grand scheme of things. On to Watford which is an absolutely HUGE game for us."

@matt_yielding added: "Wanted three points, but this stage of the season requires anything you can get. The big one is Watford. Avoid defeat and it might be over for them."

The main quibble with the performance was once again the selection of Dan James in the number nine position. The pressure is already building to find a solution this summer for when Patrick Bamford is injured.

@ConnorM219 tweeted: "Love Dan James for his effort but we need to start with a natural striker up front instead of leaving it until the 2nd half."

@OnlyForKoolKids agreed: "Can we PLEASE STOP playing Dan James out of position as a striker. It doesn't work. Ever."

@IufcIiam wrote: "Please sign a striker in the summer."

While @CentralDoLUFC said: "We need a reserve striker to replace Bamford."
