Leeds United supporters are attempting to take the club's anthem Marching on Together to number one in the charts on its 50th anniversary. A Facebook page called 'The Leeds Salute' started the movement, urging their 21,579 likers to add the song several times to a playlist and leave it playing to enable it to climb the charts.
They said: "MARCHING ON TOGETHER TO NO.1 It's a big ask but its no job too small for Leeds fans. It's the 50th anniversary of our famous anthem (1972) and after we made it to No.10 in 2010 lets go better and go all the way to the top.
"A vinyl has also just been released in memory of Les Reed OBE, the writer of Marching On Together who sadly passed away in 2019. If we all purchase it on all platforms and share, tag and pass info far and wide, it will have a massive chance!

"‘Marching On Together’ has entered the top 200 on iTunes after our recent post this afternoon about getting it to number one. To mark the 50th anniversary of our famous anthem, our mission is to get it flying up the UK charts.
"The Writer of this legendary anthem, Les Reed OBE sadly passed away in 2019 and a vinyl has been released in his memory. If we all add this song several times to a playlist and leave it play for hours on a bit of volume, it will increase the chances massively as a few plays counts as 1 sale! (Needs some volume!)"
And it appears as though it is very much working as it has already climbed just under 200 places to an astonishing 26th in around 24 hours, at the time of writing. Leeds fans performed a similar feat back in 2010 when Marching on Together reached 10 in the charts, but are looking to go nine places better this time.
