Leeds United supporter Billy Foster wins US Open as caddie with Matt Fitzpatrick

Long-time Leeds United fan Billy Foster won his first golf major as caddie last night as he helped Sheffield-born Matt Fitzpatrick to US Open glory. Foster has caddied the likes of Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia - also a Whites fan and brother-in-law of Pablo Hernandez - in the past but was yet to register a major win until last night.

Fitzpatrick took the US Open trophy in a dramatic final day, pipping Will Zalatoris on the final hole when the American missed his putt to level it. The win was Foster’s first-ever major trophy as caddie, despite featuring alongside elite names in the past.

"Unbelievably emotional. Forty years caddying; I knew somebody would get that giant monkey off my back. It was a gorilla, never mind a monkey!” Foster told Sky Sports ."He (Fitzpatrick) played absolutely brilliantly. He did my head in by missing a few short putts, but he didn't need to win by four, did he? One was good enough."

Foster is a massive Whites fan and is known to sport Leeds United kit under his caddie hear at multiple major tournaments - most notably at the 2019 Masters in Augusta. And after the win at The Country Club in Massachusetts, Leeds United’s Twitter account congratulated the Keighley-born caddie.

LUFC’s official account tweeted: “Congratulations to #LUFC fan and caddie Billy Foster on winning the #USOpen alongside @MattFitz94
