Leeds United suffer last-gasp suspension blow for crunch Nottingham Forest clash

Leeds United defender Robin Koch will be suspended for his side's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest after picking up a fifth booking of the season during the 0-0 draw with Brentford.

Koch was on four yellow cards heading into the game against the Bees and knew that should he pick up a fifth caution, he would face a one-match ban in the Premier League. Suspensions for multiple bookings in the same competition do not impact other domestic competitions in the same way that red cards do, meaning that the German will be available for the Whites' FA Cup fourth round tie vs Accrington Stanley or Boreham Wood.

Jesse Marsch will however be without the 26-year-old for their game against Forest on Sunday, February 5. Koch, alongside Max Wober, put in a superb performance to keep Brentford from scoring, with Ivan Toney unable to find the back of the net for the 14th time this season.

Koch picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 83rd minute after bringing down Toney and stopping a dangerous break from Thomas Frank's side. The caution came in Leeds' 19th Premier League game of the season, with suspensions for cumulative bookings being reset at full-time.

The defender therefore was just seven minutes away from avoiding picking up the ban, yet Koch would no doubt argue that it was not worth the risk should Brentford have gone on to score without his intervention. Marsch will be hoping that Liam Cooper will have recovered in time from the injury that kept him out of the 0-0 draw when his side travel to the City Ground.
