Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has revealed how teammate Patrick Bamford showed him clips of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota to help him improve his game. Gelhardt made his breakthrough into the Leeds first team squad last season following a sustained run of injuries to Bamford that saw him play just nine matches.
Despite not being able to contribute on the pitch, Bamford was certainly not afraid to help off it – particularly given the age of Gelhardt and several other youngsters who were thrust in to the first team. The 20-year-old had been firing them in from all angles in the U23s prior to his senior debut, but the Premier League is a whole different ball game.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Gelhardt detailed how Bamford is constantly giving him tips on how he can score goals and singled out showing clips of Jota’s aerial ability as a key example despite his slight frame.

“Patrick Bamford always gets on to me and helps me as well. He’s like a mentor. He always speaks to me about where I should be or how I can score more goals. He’s older than me and he’s got a lot more experience, so anything he tells me, I’m going to listen.
“At the end of last season, when he was injured, he would even get clips from some of my games to show me where I could be more dangerous and what I could do differently.
“He also showed me clips from other strikers in the Prem. I remember he showed me a goal from [Liverpool’s] Diogo Jota, a header inside the box. He scores so many headers, it’s ridiculous. Pat just told me, ‘If you stay between the sticks, you’re going to score goals.'”
