Leeds United staff feedback impacting Jesse Marsch's pre-season plans and long-term future

Hope springs eternal at Leeds United after retaining their Premier League status by the skin of their teeth on the final day of last season. The mood among club staff is understood to have been positive and optimistic despite 21/22’s difficulties.

The joy of securing safety at the 11th hour in Brentford has catapulted the club into a pre-season programme with some momentum. Jesse Marsch has found it impossible to ignore the good feeling around the club.

The head coach spoke about how the first two weeks had gone at Thorp Arch before flying out to Australia. His outlook for a long-term future as the Elland Road boss is renewed.

“The first thing I said to the group when we got together on day one was ‘I’ve never been more excited to get back to work’ because I really like it here,” he said. “I like our team, I like our club, I like the entire vibe around what Leeds United is here in this community.”

Marsch namechecked the medical staff, team manager and kitchen staff as he ran through the turnaround he has felt at the training ground. The American’s personal life in the area has also played its part in his feeling for the new campaign.

“Really, I am enjoying my personal life as well, with my family,” he said. “If you come to Thorp Arch right now it’s impossible to not sense the positive energy.

“It’s about the people, it’s about the workers, guys like Rob Price (head of medicine and performance), Henry McStay (head physio) and the work they do, Tom Robinson (sports scientist) and then what Matty Grice (team manager) brings, the kitchen staff. It’s just such a pleasure to come to work.

“It’s my job to help direct all those energies in the same direction and then help everybody understand how to help the team succeed. I am really hopeful, I’ve said this from the beginning, to be here for a long time.”
