Leeds United squad revealed for Barnsley clash as Marsch likely to make changes

Leeds United will be looking to continue their excellent start to the season when they host Barnsley in the Carabao Cup second round this evening. The Whites currently sit third in the Premier League after picking up seven points from their opening three matches.

Jesse Marsch has so far had a settled side to pick up from this season but could make several changes to his squad for the visit of the Tykes. In goal, Kristoffer Klaesson will be pushing for his first senior start since his move last summer.

Joel Robles could also take his place on the bench if Marsch opts to hand Illan Meslier the night off completely. In defence, Cody Drameh and Leo Hjelde are likely to start, though the position of the latter could depend heavily on the fitness of Liam Cooper.

If Cooper is available, Hjelde could start in place of Pascal Struijk at left back, but if not, he may instead get the nod in his favoured centre back role. Adam Forshaw, Sam Greenwood and Mateusz Klich are likely picks in midfield, while Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi will also be hoping they are handed opportunities from the bench if both Tyler Adams and Marc Roca are rested.

Leeds also have plenty of options in the attacking third of the field with Crysencio Summerville, Luis Sinisterra and Joe Gelhardt all hoping for their first starts of the campaign. Patrick Bamford is unlikely to be risked this evening, while some of Leeds’ star performers so far this season Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo Moreno and Jack Harrison could also be kept fresh for the trip to Brighton on Saturday.

That could allow either on or both of Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph to get a chance as substitutes after their very impressive performances for the U21s this month.

Full Leeds United squad: Kristoffer Klaesson, Joel Robles, Cody Drameh, Rasmus Kristensen, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Leo Hjelde, Adam Forshaw, Sam Greenwood, Mateusz Klich, Darko Gyabi, Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, Dan James, Sonny Perkins, Jack Harrison, Luis Sinisterra, Joe Gelhardt, Mateo Joseph
