Leeds United set pre-season scene as Championship preparations step up

Leeds United have set the scene as they prepare to get their pre-season campaign underway this morning. The Whites have less than five weeks to get themselves ready for their season opener against Cardiff City and the hard work begins today at Leeds Beckett’s Carnegie School of Sport.

As we have seen in seasons gone by, Leeds’ senior squad will undergo a series of medical tests and examinations today, with the club’s staff in place to welcome a chunk of the squad back to the action. Only those who have not been in international action will be expected back in West Yorkshire today, with the rest of the squad set to return next Monday following their extended breaks.

The Whites won’t be due to take the grass at Thorp Arch until Tuesday, despite still being without a manager, but their first day will be centred at the university. Leeds have taken to social media to provide fans with a glimpse of what’s in store for the players returning today with a short video.

No players actually feature in the 25-second clip, despite pictures emerging on social media of Sam Greenwood and Luke Ayling being present, but the video showed a glimpse of the university’s top-class health and fitness facilities which Leeds will be looking to make the most of. The video also provided a brief look at the club’s new training kit, which was released this morning.

The Whites will train in blue this season and the top shown features a sticker with Gelhardt’s name and size requirements. Leeds will be hoping their players return to training in good shape having kept up their fitness routines over the summer months, especially given the short amount of time they have to prepare for the start of the Championship campaign.

Leeds are yet to announce their full pre-season friendly schedule, but the club are due to travel to Oslo next week in order to take on Manchester United on July 12. The club are hoping to announce their remaining friendlies shortly with as many as three UK-based games thought to be in the offing.
