Leeds United’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa have parted company with manager Steven Gerrard. The decision came following the club’s 3-0 loss to Fulham on Thursday night which saw them drop to within touching distance of the relegation zone.
Villa have picked up two wins this season, bagging wins over Everton and Southampton, but they have now gone four games without a win and their lacklustre performance at Craven Cottage was the final straw. As such, the Midlands club have made the decision to remove Gerrard from the Villa Park hotseat.
Gerrard spent just less than a year in the job after replacing Dean Smith in the role in November last year. He had an immediate impact at the club, too, but Villa’s form tailed off last season and they currently sit 17th, level on points but one spot below Leeds, in the Premier League table.

The club announced their decision with an extremely short statement:
“Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.
“A club spokesman said: “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.””
Villa could enter the relegation zone this weekend if they fail to pick up points against Brentford at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
