Leeds United see Carabao Cup tie with Wolves pushed back

Leeds United’s Carabao Cup third round clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers has been pushed back. The Whites were due to travel to Molineux on Tuesday, November 8, but the club will now make the journey 24 hours later on the Wednesday night.

The game will be the Whites’ penultimate outing before the Premier League breaks up for the World Cup and Jesse Marsch will be keen to secure the club’s progress in the competition before the new year. Leeds secured their spot in the third round of the competition last month by seeing off Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Elland Road.

United have made their intentions clear about a cup run this season, with Angus Kinnear writing about the subject in his programme notes ahead of the clash with the Tykes.

“In the last two years, our laser focus on confounding the odds to retain our Premier League status meant the two cups couldn’t receive the priority we all wanted to give them,” he wrote. “This season is different as have the tactical foundations and the squad depth to mount campaigns on three fronts.

“Victor and I have particularly poor track records in the cups having witnessed numerous early exits including humiliations at Crawley and Newport. We, therefore, share a personal desire to give supporters a cup run we can be proud of.”

The news comes after Leeds United’s Under-21s game against Crewe Alexandra in the Papa John’s Trophy was postponed and rearranged for November 1.
