Leeds United's Wilfried Gnonto 'looks like a Man City winger' admits starstruck Gary Neville

Gary Neville has called Wilfried Gnonto a “Manchester City winger” after his dazzling performance against Aston Villa. As has often been the case in recent times, the youngster was the only shining light from an otherwise dismal result.

His involvement in Patrick Bamford’s consolation saw him earn demonstrated exactly why he has turned heads this season. It is scary to think Gnonto only made his Premier League debut on October 29 as he is now one of the first names on Jesse Marsch’s team sheet.

Signed from FC Zurich for a pittance, few expected the forward - despite his eight caps for Italy - to have such an impact this season. A five-year contract signed last summer means Leeds could demand a sizable fee should a Premier League rival express interest.

Speaking after the clash at Villa Park, former Manchester United captain Neville backed Gnonto to flourish should Pep Guardiola come snooping. He told Sky Sports: “Leeds fans won’t like me for saying this but when you look at a player like Gnonto and how Manchester City play by playing those little passes into those midfield runners, he just looks like a Manchester City winger.

“Leeds fans won’t like me for saying that because I’m not selling him off. I’m sure they want to see him for another few years at Leeds United. He looks really, really good. So mature in his decision-making on the ball.”
