Leeds United's U18s FA Youth Cup run over as Cambridge United see off young Whites

Leeds United Under-18s are out of the FA Youth Cup after losing 2-0 to Cambridge United.

Scott Gardner’s side were knocked out by the U’s youngsters in the fourth round.

Goals from Kai Yearn and Brandon Njoku were enough to see off the Whites at the Abbey Stadium, the home of Cambridge’s senior team.

With the League One’s side’s U18 team operating in a lower division than Leeds, it was something of a shock result for Leeds who entered the competition at a later stage.

The visitors did have the ball in the net in the second half but the referee adjudged Ben Andreucci to have committed a foul in the build up.

With Gardner’s young side consolidating their place in the middle of the table domestically, there was real chance for them to go deep in the cup but, unfortunately, that will not be the case.

The FA Youth Cup is one that the Whites have enjoyed some success in previously but their last triumph came in the 1996/97 season, four years after they first lifted the trophy.

Gardner’s youngsters must now turn their attention to the weekend where they face Derby, a side on the same amount of points but two places lower in the table.
