Leeds United's shot at Man United redemption given new date as fans urged to pack Elland Road

Leeds United's youngsters have been impacted by the injury situation within the first-team this year.

The Whites' well-documented woes in the treatment room has left the U23 squad depleted for several fixtures as they aim to stay in Premier League 2 Division 1.

On the back of two successive promotions, Leeds' U23s have battled well against some of the country's premium academy sides and currently find themselves outside the relegation zone by a couple of points.

Later this month, arch-rivals Manchester United return to the site of their 4-2 victory earlier this season.

While it may only be the U23 squads who will do battle at Elland Road, supporters have been incentivised to attend in their droves, in order to spur the young team on.

Originally, Leeds' U23s were to take on Manchester United U23s on Monday, March 14, however that fixture has now been pushed back 24 hours.

The new date and time for the miniature derby is Tuesday, March 15 at 7pm.

Leeds' youngsters have played at Elland Road twice already this season, losing to Arsenal during October before beating Liverpool 3-0 last month.

Both fixtures saw attendances in excess of 8,000 at Elland Road. A similar turnout is expected for the visit of Manchester United.

Without the likes of Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville, Charlie Cresswell and Cody Drameh on a regular basis this season, Leeds have struggled at times.

The quartet in question were particularly effective as Leeds' U23s lifted the PL2 Division 2 title during 2020/21.

Loan manager and former Sunderland first-team coach Andrew Taylor will take charge of the U23 side until the end of the season, following Mark Jackson's promotion from lead development coach to become part of Jesse Marsch's backroom team.

A statement on Leeds United's website said: "Season Ticket Holders and Members can claim a free ticket to attend this fixture [Leeds U23s vs Man United U23s] but must apply online by Wednesday 9th March."

Leeds United's U23s' next fixture is away to Mansfield Town in their rearranged Premier League Cup fixture on Monday, March 7.

The young Whites' postponed clash with Brighton and Hove Albion U23s has also been rescheduled for Friday, April 15 at 2pm.
