It was a day that started with only a fool's hope and little else, ending in expected fashion with Leeds United sent packing from the Premier League. The last throw of the dice in bringing Sam Allardyce in for the final four games failed to work, with Big Sam needing a bigger fixture list to work with, as time and games ran out to save the good ship Leeds, which had been sinking in alarming fashion for months.
It needed everything to go in Leeds' favour if safety was to be won against all the odds, but from the moment Harry Kane scored after two minutes at Elland road, any hope of a shock to end all shock was pretty much ended.
As half-time approached with Allardyce's side trailing and Leicester City winning, the task at hand looked impossible. Two minutes after the restart and with Pedro Porro doubling the visitors' lead, the game was up. Jack Harrison pulled a goal back with 30 minutes remaining but Everton and Leicester were both in total control in their games, and Leeds couldn't build on the goal anyway with Kane getting a second soon after before falling to a 4-1 defeat.

It means that a three-year stay in the top flight is over, with fans hoping and expecting it won't be another 16 years between drinks like the last time the Whites fell out of the Premier League. A summer of upheaval awaits with a new manager, new players, a new director of football and possibly new owners all on the cards.
What Leeds will look like when the Championship season starts nobody knows right now, but one thing is for certain, the slog of the unpredictable second tier will not be hospitable on Leeds' return.
