Leeds United's Manchester City clash in doubt after King Charles coronation announcement

Leeds United's May 6 Premier League fixture against Manchester City has been thrown up in the air following the announcement of King Charles' coronation next year.

A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed Charles III will be crowned on May 6, meaning the Whites clash with City at the Etihad will likely be moved.

The statement read: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to announce that the coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023. The coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside the Queen Consort."

While the majority of the Premier League saw just one of their fixture's postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in mid-September, Leeds had two.

Jesse Marsch's side were due to take on Nottingham Forest and Manchester United, but both games had to be postponed. The fixture against Forest was on the weekend of the Queen's passing while the Manchester United game did not go ahead due to policing issues.

There has been no confirmation yet as to when these fixtures will take place, nor has there been any that the Whites clash with Manchester City on May 6 will be moved but it would be safe to assume it would be.

And this means Leeds do not know when three of their games will be played this season.

The Department of Media, Culture and Sport have told the Mirror that it is too early to give fans any guidance on when the games will be played but that there will be talks taking place over the next few weeks to devise a plan of action of the first weekend of May.

Last time the Whites faced City at the Etihad, they found themselves on the end of a 7-0 December drubbing. Then manager Marcelo Bielsa's side were no match for the Premier League champions.
