Leeds United's key games before this winter's World Cup

It will be almost an entire month since Leeds last played in the Premier League when they host Aston Villa after the international break next month.

Leeds lost 5-2 at Brentford in their last outing but have collected eight points from their first six games.

The Whites are winless in their last three league games (L2 D1) since their memorable 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Jesse Marsch's side now face eight league games before this winter's World Cup in Qatar and we've taken a look at their key games before the Premier League heads on a six-week break in November.

2 Oct: Aston Villa (H)

Leeds will return to action after almost a month without playing a Premier League game when Aston Villa visit Elland Road. Villa ended a run of four league matches without a win by beating Southampton at Villa Park in their last outing.

Nevertheless, Villa have registered back-to-back victories just three times since Steven Gerrard took over in November 2021.

Villa are unbeaten in their last four trips to Elland Road and have been victorious in back-to-back games at Leeds since the Whites returned to the Premier League in 2020.

20 Oct: Leicester City (A)

Leicester have endured a torrid start to the season and are still awaiting their first win of the campaign. The Foxes are rooted to the foot of the table after amassing a mere one point from their first seven games.

Former Leeds goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel left the King Power Stadium in the summer after 11 years with the club. His replacement Danny Ward has conceded 22 goals – more than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.

23 Oct: Fulham (H)

Fulham went up into the Premier League with Leeds in 2020, but while the Whites secured a ninth place finish, Scott Parker led them to a second relegation in three seasons.

Things look much more positive under Marco Silva, however. The Portuguese boss inspired them to the Championship title last term and has amassed 11 points from their first seven matches to sit sixth.

Nonetheless, Leeds have been successful of late against Fulham, winning each of their last four meetings against the Cottagers across all competitions.

5 Nov: AFC Bournemouth (H)

This will be the first Premier League meeting between both sides, after Bournemouth’s relegation coincided with Leeds’ promotion to the top-flight in 2020.

Bournemouth have won just once in 13 meetings against Leeds (D2 L10) but will be buoyed by recent results under caretaker manager Gary O’Neil.

Scott Parker was sacked after a 9-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield last month but the Cherries are still yet to taste defeat under O’Neil. Bournemouth have drawn against Wolves and Newcastle respectively and came from two goals behind to beat Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
