Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has claimed he is ‘doing well’ despite his second half substitution due to injury in Friday’s 3-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Meslier was replaced by debutant to Kristoffer Klaesson in the 10th minute of the second half after a challenge with Raul Jimenez, that saw him receive a second yellow card.
Prior to Friday’s game at Molineux, Meslier was the only member of Leeds’ first-team squad not to have been affected by injuries this season – starting every game in all competitions. However, he was the fourth player in Jesse Marsch’s starting XI to be substituted due to injury yesterday, following Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente and Mateusz Klich (concussion) off the pitch.
Meslier was caught late by Wolves striker Jimenez outside of the penalty area after the Leeds goalkeeper had got to a long ball in behind the defence first. But it was that moment of the game that arguably turned the game in the Whites’ favour.

Leeds very much had their backs against the wall with the score at 2-0, however they displayed their character to score three unanswered goals through Jack Harrison, Rodrigo Moreno and Luke Ayling to earn an unbelievable three points in the battle to beat the drop. Meslier issued an update on his condition via his official Instagram and is hopeful of being back on the pitch soon.
He said: “Thank you for all your messages! I am doing well considering the circumstances. The comeback and the victory of the team make the pains less. I am in good hands and hope to be back on the pitch soon.”
Leeds are next in action at home to Southampton on Saturday, April 2.
