Leeds United's 'don't mess with us' message after Illan Meslier's Newcastle United scuffle

Leeds United have taken to social media to send a 'don't mess with Leeds' message to Newcastle United after the two sides were embroiled in multiple scuffles towards the end of their New Year's Eve clash.

The Whites frustrated the Magpies with their staunch defensive efforts that eventually earned them a hard-fought point at St. James' Park but not before two instances where Jesse Marsch's side were accused of time-wasting.

The first came a minute into stoppage time, where Mateusz Klich and Tyler Adams both delayed Jacob Murphy's throw-in by kicking another ball into play meaning the game couldn't be restarted due to there being two balls on the pitch.

Leeds posted the exchange on social media, with the caption "Don't mess with Leeds! @Cli5hy x @tyler_adams14", with a video of the incident.

The second instance came when Whites goalkeeper Illan Meslier was pushed to the ground by Newcastle striker Callum Wilson, who then tried to hurry Meslier back to his feet alongside Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian then got into the face of the Frenchman, who grabbed hold of Guimaraes' shirt before a flurry of players from both sides ran over to step in.

After the game, Meslier posted a photo of him grabbing Guimaraes on his Instagram story with the caption "In France, we don't say, 'Grab my shirt'. We say, 'Tu commences par me choper par le colback.'", a phrase that loosely translates as: 'You start by grabbing me by the scruff of the neck.'
