Leeds United's defensive record 'very worrying' ahead of relegation run in

Brentford defender Ben Mee says Leeds United's defensive record is really worrying as they approach the business end of the season. The Whites may not be in the Premier League bottom three, with a two point gap to Nottingham Forest, but have conceded 60 goals so far this season, the most out of any side in the top flight.

That statistic has been inflated with heavy defeats in their last two outings. Javi Gracia's side were thumped 5-1 by fellow strugglers Crystal Palace before Liverpool ran riot in a 6-1 win on Monday night.

Leeds' poor defensive record has been indicative of their defensive frailties in the past two seasons. It's a stark contrast to their first year back in the Premier League, where they conceded 54 goals in 2020-21 - 25 goals less than last season's dismal record of 79 goals conceded.

Mee told Sky Sports: "It’s really worrying for Leeds and Leeds United fans. Two home games, conceded 11 goals.

"A team folding like that is going to damage the group quite a bit. That second half was really poor, especially from a defensive point of view.

"The amount of times Liverpool cut them open is worrying. You want to see leaders, you want to see characters - a character within the group, that’s what’s going to keep them up in this league and survive in this league."
