Leeds United's Charlie Cresswell set for operation after suffering fractured eye socket

Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell will likely need an operation to resolve the damage caused from a fractured eye socket, according to Millwall boss Gary Rowett.

Cresswell suffered the horrific injury during Millwall's clash with West Brom as he came off in stoppage-time during Saturday's 0-0 draw. It was a bitter blow to the Leeds youngster who had so far shone during his time away from Elland Road.

Although it is still unclear how long Cresswell will be out for, Rowett believes the defender may likely need to have an operation to correct the damage that has been done.

“He went to see a specialist and it was too swollen for them to be definitive,” Rowett told the South London Press. “We’re waiting on a prognosis for what the next step is.

“I presume the next step is either an operation, which wouldn’t be good in terms of coming back [for the rest of the season], or possibly wear a mask.

“We’re waiting on that next stage until we know where we are. It’s quite a nasty injury and, particularly as a young player, we have got to follow whatever Leeds think is the right thing to do with Cressy. We’ll support that.”
