Leeds United run Celtic Park scouting mission as Elland Road club watch over Champions League game

Leeds United were in Glasgow on Tuesday night as they glanced their eyes over Celtic in Champions League action against Shakhtar Donetsk, it is claimed.

It was a disappointing night for the Hoops as they exited European football for this season altogether after a 1-1 draw against the Ukrainian side. Giorgos Giakoumakis put them into a half-time lead but a similar story played out, in that they were made to pay for missed chances when Mykhaylo Mudryk scored a wonderful solo goal to ensure a point for the visitors.

They head in Group F's final matchday against RB Leipzig looking to finish second and secure last 16 placement, but Celtic dreams of going abroad after Christmas are over. Europa League football was still a possibility had they clinched a win against Shakhtar but they fell short and sit bottom on two points, four points away from this week's opponents ahead of their final game away at Real Madrid.

Mudryk is catching the eye of plenty across Europe and his driving run plus goal will no doubt have heightened potential demand.

Matt O'Riley meanwhile impressed amid interest in him from down south as Giakoumakis scored his 20th Celtic goal from 21 starts. Ange Postecoglou's side return to Premiership action this Sunday versus Livingston.
