A table from football finance expert Kieran Maguire has shown that Leeds United were the most cost-effective club in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season.
The season was Leeds' first back in the Premier League after being promoted from the Championship, with Marcelo Bielsa guiding the Whites to an impressive ninth-placed finish.
The table from Maguire shows how much each Premier League club paid per goal in terms of wages and transfer fee amortisation. Leeds were the most cost-effective club, paying £2.36 million per goal during the 2020/21 campaign.
West Bromwich Albion - who were promoted to the top flight alongside Leeds - had the next lowest cost per goal, with £2.92 million.
Unsurprisingly, five of the 'big six' made up the top six places in terms of biggest cost per goal. Chelsea spent the most money per goal - splashing out an eye-watering £8.55 million for every time the ball hit the net. Surprisingly, Fulham were just behind them with the second-highest cost per goal. The Cottagers spent £6.31 million per goal.
In the 2020/21 season, Leeds scored 62 goals - the joint sixth most in the division.
Albeit the figures are from two seasons ago, but all signs point to Leeds being one of the most well-run clubs in the Premier League.
