Leeds United are reportedly 'preparing' an offer for Red Bull Salzburg defender Maximilian Wober. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the Whites are set to open talks over a deal that could reach €16 million including add-ons.
Wober is currently captain of Salzburg and would become the third player from the club to join Leeds in just two transfer windows following the arrivals of Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen in the summer. The 24-year-old is equally adept at playing as both a left back and centre back, with Leeds very much in the market for the former in January.
According to transfermarkt, Wober has played 16 of his 19 matches for Salzburg this season, netting two goals and providing six assists. Some fans maybe sceptical of the fact he is a player who plays in both positions, though Wober is a player of decent pedigree given he is a 13-time capped Austria international, playing the majority of those matches at left back.

And that is an area that has been a clear weakness for Leeds this season, with Pascal Struijk having had to fill in there this season. Struijk is primarily a centre back but has had to stand in due to Junior Firpo's ongoing injury and form concerns.
Whether Wober would be Leeds' left back signing in January remains to be seen, though it seems likely given Jesse Marsch currently has four senior centre backs at his disposal already. Diego Llorente also penned a new deal last week, suggesting he will be here beyond next month despite his lack of game time.
