Leeds United relegation rivals Southampton sack Nathan Jones after defeat to 10-man Wolves

Southampton have parted company with manager Nathan Jones following their 2-1 defeat to 10-man Wolves, a club statement confirmed.

Less than a week after Leeds United sacked head coach Jesse Marsch, the Saints have followed suit with the dismissal of Jones. The south coast side sit bottom of the Premier League, losing 15 of their 22 matches in the top-flight this season.

Saturday's defeat to Wolves proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Jones, as Southampton threw away a 1-0 lead to Wolves - despite their opponents being down to 10-men from the 27th minute onwards.

A curt 51-word club statement from Southampton read: "Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones.

"First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club. First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea."

Jones was in charge of eight matches during his time at St Mary's, winning one game and losing the other seven in a spell that lasted just three months.

The Saints will now also be in the hunt for a new manager and the urgency will be on Leeds to get a new head coach through the door as soon as possible following Marsch's sacking.
