Leeds United relegation rivals handed boost in battle to avoid the drop

Leeds United's relegation rivals Everton have been handed a major boost ahead of their clash against Chelsea. Head coach Frank Lampard revealed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina are both set to return to the Toffees match day squad in an effort to help Everton climb out of the relegation zone.

Both players missed the 2-0 away defeat against city rivals Liverpool last weekend, with Lampard quashing rumours that Calvert-Lewin was actually fit for the derby, only to be left out of the Everton squad.

Speaking at his press conference where he revealed the updates on Calvert-Lewin and Mina, Lampard said: "They’re not true. [The Calvert-Lewin rumours] That’s the unfortunate rumour mill in football.

“Dominic is back in the squad, he’s been training the last couple of days. Yerry [Mina] is back in the squad, Yerry was more being careful with him because he’d been out for a while and had played the previous game a few days before."

Additionally, Everton have also been bolstered by midfielder Tom Davies return to training, much to Lampard's delight.

Lampard said: "He's a great lad. We just need to get him more training minutes, hopefully game minutes because he's been out for a while. Hopefully he can contribute in the final part of the season."

However, Lampard's update was not all positive, with the Everton boss also revealing that Ben Godfrey will be out for a few weeks alongside midfielders Donny van de Beek and Andre Gomes who will also miss out on this weekend's action.

Lampard added: “ Ben [Godfrey] is out and will be a few weeks out. We would love to get him back towards the end of the season but it will be a close call. Donny [van de Beek] is out, Donny’s not fit and nor is Andre Gomes.”

Everton sit five points behind Leeds following the Whites' Saturday night defeat to Manchester City and have played two games fewer. Burnley's comeback win over Watford has seen them move to 16th place.
