Leeds United player wage valued per point ranks in top three after dramatic final day survival

Final day heroics and jubilant away scenes were what will live long in the memory for most Leeds United fans regarding the 21/22 campaign, after a stunning 3-1 away victory over Brentford.

But with spending from Victor Orta and co held off during key January months, some fans have criticised the Whites director of football, none more so than the decision to sack popular manager Marcelo Bielsa midway through the campaign too.

Given the club are already acting quickly heading into the summer months, securing Brendan Aaronson and potentially Rasmus Kristensen too, it is safe to say there are clubs with much bigger budgets who have performed just as poorly in retrospect this season.

But thanks to new research compiled following the completion of the 21/22 campaign, it can now be revealed that Brentford had the best value squad in the Premier League, with their points total compared to their wage bill offering a return more than nine times better than Manchester United.

The study by football ticket marketplace FootbalTicketpad.com compared the estimated gross annual wages of Premier League squads in the 2021/22 season against the number of points each team achieved.

Leeds finish second in the Wage Value Table – each of their 38 points cost £626,578.95 based on an estimated gross annual wage bill of £23,810,000, perhaps pointing at the shrewd business mindset Orta is often criticised for.

Everton, who were one of United's biggest rivals heading into the nervy end of season run-in escaped the relegation zone in real life, but sit in the bottom three for wage value, having paid £2,218,205.13 per point to achieve their 39 points.
