Leeds United news with Jamie Shackleton 'excited' about permanent Millwall option

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines for Friday, July 29.

Shackleton 'excited' about permanent option

Jamie Shackleton says the potential of joining Millwall permanently from Leeds next summer is 'exciting'. The midfielder joined the Lions on loan earlier this month, with the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has been at the Whites since 2006, but his long association with his hometown club could come to an end next summer.

"I think it’s an exciting idea,” Shackleton told NewsAtDen.

“Obviously, it all depends on how the next few months go, but in an ideal world I’d get 40 odd games under my belt and I go from there. It’ll be exciting to see where we can get to this year.”

“For me, while I’m here, the aim is to get into one of those playoff spots. Even better, why not above that? Hopefully, we can take Millwall to the same level as Leeds and from there we can see what happens. But for the season, that’s the aim for me and the lads in the dressing room.”

Roberts ruled out of Championship opener

Leeds loanee Tyler Roberts has been ruled out of Queens Park Rangers' season opener at Blackburn Rovers this weekend. Roberts, who left Elland Road on a season-long loan earlier this month, picked up the injury in QPR's friendly against Crawley Town - and sat out of their pre-season game against Crystal Palace last week.

The Wales international will remain in London while the QPR squad head to Ewood Park to kick off their Championship campaign, although head coach Mick Beale has confirmed that Roberts' injury is only a 'slight issue'.

“Everyone bar Tyler Roberts has trained,” Beale told West London Sport.

“He has a slight issue that I don’t want to risk. He did start the week training with us but I didn’t think he looked right. It is the right call for us just to slow down and make sure he is ready."

Kick-off time for Cagliari friendly changed

Leeds United have confirmed their pre-season friendly with Cagliari on Sunday will now kick off at a new time of 6:45pm. The Whites ’ clash with the Serie B side was initially meant to get under way at 6pm but has been moved to accommodate the women’s EUROs final, which England will be facing Germany in.

The Lionesses booked their place at Wembley on Tuesday with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Sweden at Bramall Lane, with Germany securing their passage 24 hours later by beating France 2-1. The final gets underway at 5pm BST, meaning Leeds supporters will now get the opportunity to catch the majority of the 90 minutes.

A statement from the club read: “Leeds United can confirm that Sunday’s friendly against Cagliari will now kick-off at the agreed time of 6:45pm, which is 45 minutes later than the original fixture time.

"England Women have impressively made the final of the Women’s Euro 2022 tournament and will play against Germany at Wembley, with the match scheduled to get underway at 5pm.

“We are all exceptionally proud of the effort and fantastic football on display from the Lionesses, and will therefore show the match in the Fan Zone and on all concourses around the ground for supporters to watch the final inside Elland Road."
