Leeds United news with Elland Road 8-0 claim made as Dan James exit explained

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines for November 20.

Evans makes Elland Road claim

Former Leeds boss Steve Evans did not hold back in his assessment of the referee’s performance in his Stevenage side's game with Grimsby Town this weekend. Evans said he felt the Mariners' fans swayed the referee's decision-making during the 1-1 draw.

Making bold comments the way of referee Tom Reeves, the 60-year-old was critical of his performance during the 90 minutes, insisting he feels the official would have crumbled under a crowd of Elland Road's stature.

Evans' assessment was: “I think they swayed the referee to be fair to them and I think he’s got a problem if he goes up the levels if he is getting swayed here at Blundell Park. Wait until he goes to Elland Road in front of 48,000 if he gets influenced there they’d win 8-0!"

Stevenage have enjoyed a strong start to the 22/23 campaign, sitting second in the table at present, just five points behind league leaders Leyton Orient in the table.

Dan James opens up on Leeds exit

Daniel James has admitted it was 'tough' to leave Leeds United in the summer but ultimately feels as though it was the correct decision with the World Cup in mind. James made a season-long-loan switch to Fulham on deadline day after Leeds told him he was able to leave.

He had been at Elland Road for only 12 months prior to his move to Fulham, having joined in a £25 million deal on deadline day in the summer of 2021.

James signed a long-term deal until 2026 with Leeds but was likely to see his game time limited with Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison, Brenden Aaronson, Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto all competing for his spot.

Adams reveals USMNT captain honour

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has revealed it is a 'huge honour' to be named as captain of USA for the World Cup.

The US have rotated their captaincy between the likes of Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Walker Zimmerman during qualifying but have opted to appoint a permanent captain for the tournament in Qatar.

Coach Gregg Berhalter is reported to have left the decision in the hands of his players, allowing them to all vote individually with Leeds fan favourite Adams the chosen one.
