Leeds United news: Whites told they're lucky in Nottingham Forest win as Marc Roca hailed

Here are the Leeds United headlines this morning on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Leeds told they're lucky

Leeds United have been told they were very lucky to have not conceded a penalty against Nottingham Forest in an incident which could have changed the outcome of the game. Forest took the lead in the clash anyway, but also came close to being awarded an early penalty according to former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Emmanuel Dennis hit the post for the visitors with a shot early in the Elland Road contest, however the ball comes off Patrick Bamford. Robinson feels the visitors were very unlucky not to score from it, or at least have a penalty.

Speaking on the Premier League world feed commentary he said; "It’s Patrick Bamford it comes off. He’s very lucky it doesn’t hit his hand. Emmanuel Dennis is really unlucky."

Roca has his best game

Tony Dorigo has hailed the performance of Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca in the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest. The midfielder played a starring role as the hosts came from a goal down to beat Forest in a huge relegation clash at Eland road.

The win shoots the Whites up the Premier League ladder and gives hope ahead of another massive game at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday. One man who will take a lot of confidence into that game is former Bayern Munich midfielder Roca, who was very impressive on Tuesday night. It's a fact echoed by Dorgio.

He told LUTV; "In the midfield, we had things under control. McKennie was superb and I think Marc Roca, probably had his best game for Leeds United. I thought he was wonderful."

Talking points

There is a temptation to simply cut and paste Luke Ayling’s passage from Sunday’s Arsenal talking points. The right-back had another tough evening, his fourth on the bounce, last night.

The gravest error was undoubtedly Ayling’s botched clearing header which cannoned off Emmanuel Dennis and into his possession for a Forest counter. Leeds were caught out of position and before Mangala would eventually apply the final dummy and finish, there was time still for Dennis to beat Ayling again before his low cross to the goalscorer.

The vice-captain was not cowed by his part in the goal. He continued to gallop forward at every opportunity throughout the game, though with mixed success it should be noted. Unfortunately, it’s not happening for Ayling in defence.

Mourinho ponders Llorente swap deal

Italian outlet AS Roma Live are reporting that Jose Mourinho is weighing up the possibility of a swap deal with Leeds United for Diego Llorente.

Llorente joined the Serie A side on loan in the January window and after struggling initially, he caught the eye of Mourinho during an impressive 3-0 victory over Sampdoria. Now it is being claimed that the apparent £18million option-to-buy clause for Roma to make the move a permanent one is proving a sticking point.

It is therefore thought that the club are looking to include a possible player plus cash alternative to lower the financial outlay to secure Llorente's services. Which personnel may be involved is still unclear, with Leeds no doubt unwilling to take any Roma castaway without the certainty that they will improve their squad.
