Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday, 7 June 2022.
Leeds close on new assistant
Leeds United are set to bring in former Manchester United coach Chris Armas as Jesse Marsch’s new assistant manager. That is according to the Athletic, who claim there could be a slight reshuffle among coaching staff at Leeds with Armas coming in and Franz Schiemer his current assistant.
Armas was brought to Old Trafford by Ralf Rangnick, but after his decision to become Austria’s new manager, the American’s time at the Red Devils also came to an end. Marsch is familiar with Armas from their time together in the Red Bull setup.

Liverpool switch Raphinha attention
Liverpool are interested in Benfica forward Darwin Nunez as a Raphinha alternative amid Leeds United’s firm stance on the winger. The Reds are in the market for a marquee forward following increasing resignation that Sadio Mane will go to Bayern Munich, and they have shown interest in Raphinha for some time.
But the Whites have reportedly made firm demands of £60-70million paid upfront, forcing the Reds to look for alternative options. 22-year-old Nunez had an outstanding season for Benfica last season, scoring 26 goals in 28 Portuguese Primera Liga appearances, he also hit six goals in 10 Champions League games.
And now the Times’ Paul Joyce has suggested that Nunez could be the man to come through the Anfield doors, with the Reds considering the striker as a more reasonably-priced option compared to Raphinha.

Teenaged minutes
One of the very few silver linings of Leeds United’s injury-ridden and all-round underwhelming Premier League campaign was the amount of exposure gained by the club’s young players. A handful of the most promising talents within the Whites squad were on the bench most weekends while others gained plenty of first-team involvement.
Such was the extent of the injury problems at Elland Road, Leeds handed eight league debuts to teenagers, breaking their club record for a single Premier League season. Those players were Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, Charlie Cresswell, Crysencio Summerville, Leo Hjelde, Cody Drameh, Lewis Bate and Stuart McKinstry.
Between them, those eight young players played 1,073 minutes of football in the Premier League, meaning Leeds gave more minutes to teenagers than all-but three top-flight sides in the 2021/22 campaign. The only teams to have given more were Southampton (2,222), Manchester United (1,527) and Norwich (1,079).
