Luke Ayling sends Leeds United teammate two-word message after World Cup performance
Leeds United right-back Luke Ayling has sent a message to his Whites teammate Tyler Adams after the latter's performance against England at the World Cup on Friday night.
Despite only signing for Leeds in summer, the American has been a key part of Jesse Marsch's squad over the course of the first half of the season and was rewarded with not just a place in the 26-man squad for the World Cup but also the captain's armband.
The 23-year-old has proved manager Greg Berhalter correct in his decision so far in the tournament after he's managed two standout performances in their two group stage matches.
Taking to social media after the match, Adams posted three different photos; the first of him tackling England captain Harry Kane, the second of him leading out the USA side and the third being him clapping the US fans that had travelled to Qatar.
He also posted them with the caption: "All to play for" with a USA flag emoji signifying that they believe after their 0-0 draw against the Three Lions, they can top the group with a win against Iran on Tuesday.
Ayling commented underneath the post: "Different class" with two clapping emojis, highlighting how much he enjoyed Adams' performance against England.
Former Leeds United man signs for Newcastle United
Former Leeds United Head of National Academy Recruitment Paul Midgley is set to join Newcastle United's recruitment staff just months after signing for Manchester City as a regional scout.
The Magpies have already invested heavily into their academy after bringing in the likes of young Australian forward Garang Kuol who will join the club after his World Cup stint with the Socceroos and the signing of Midgley will further that investment even more.
Steve Harper, Newcastle's current Head of Academy, believes that the club's new owners' investment means they can set up key players for the club's future themselves rather than having to spend big in transfer markets.
"[The owners] are putting those levels in of sustainability and experts in the field who can grow the club in every department.
"The investment we're getting in the academy as well, the changes we're making there to build it and put a lot of things in place that weren't there originally, where the returns are down the line."
Leeds United's Tottenham clue and transfer record may expose overpriced premium
History was made in Leeds United’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur. For the first time in the club’s competitive history, a line-up was named with no players eligible for England selection.
According to LUFC Data, every previous competitive line-up named by the Whites included at least one player eligible to represent The Three Lions. Liam Cooper was, of course, born in England, but he has declared for Scotland’s national team.
Jack Harrison has been the player holding off this particular record in recent weeks, but an injury forced him out of the squad in the capital. Leeds had players eligible for France, Germany, Scotland, Netherlands, USA, Spain, Denmark and Italy starting at Spurs.
