Leeds United news as youngster heads to Sunderland on trial

Your Leeds United evening headlines on Tuesday, April 19:

Youngster heads to Sunderland on trial

Leeds United have used a record amount of teenagers in the Premier League this season, amidst an almost unprecedented injury crisis for the Whites. Part of Victor Orta's recruitment philosophy is to aggressively recruit high potential youngsters and offer them chances in the first-team. This season has seen an accelerated version of that strategy playing out and players like Joe Gelhardt and - more recently - Sam Greenwood have grasped opportunities.

However, with all academy sides, there are plenty of sides who will have to go elsewhere to find their chance to break into first-team football and that seems to be the case for 18-year-old Joe Littlewood. The defender has gone for a trial at Sunderland and started in their Under-23s match on Monday. This appears to be on a view to a permanent move to the Stadium of Light for next season.

Russell Martin issues defiant claim over reported Leeds target Flynn Downes

Leeds were linked to to Swansea City's Flynn Downes last month and his manager, Russell Martin addressed these claims today.

He said of the midfielder: "As far as we're concerned, Flynn's just bought a house in Swansea, he loves it, his partner loves it. He's loving what we're doing on the pitch. He has a great relationship with all of the coaching staff and players.

"He's really well respected and I think the fans really like him. I think that counts a lot for someone like Flynn, after the tough time he had last year, I don't think it's just about jumping at any opportunity."

The 23-year-old has previously scored against the Whites for Ipswich. However, since moving to Swansea in the summer he has become one of the Championship's top defensive midfielders, controlling possession for Martin's side in a deep position.

Everything Erling Haaland has said about Leeds United as Premier League links intensify

Over the last few days, both the Daily Mail and the Athletic have reported that Erling Haaland has chosen to move to Manchester City ahead of next season. The Norwegian has had his next move speculated about ever since he chose to leave RB Salzburg for Dortmund and a return to one of his Father Alf-Inge Haaland's former clubs appears to be his choice.

Another of Alfie Haaland's former clubs is, of course, Leeds and Erling's affinity for the club of the city he was born in is well known. In fact, when he was 16, Haaland told a Norwegian TV station that his dream was 'to win the Premier League with Leeds'. Should he move to City, then he may get his dream of playing at Elland Road, although it would be as an opposition player.
