Leeds United news as Whites told to stick with Jesse Marsch after 'dead and buried' verdict

A look at the latest Leeds United headlines on Friday, 18 November.

Leeds United told to stick with Jesse Marsch after 'dead and buried verdict'

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Leeds United need to stick with Jesse Marsch after wins over Bournemouth and Liverpool. Pressure had been beginning to mount on the Whites' head coach, but back-to-back wins saw them move away from the relegation zone and away from danger.

“I think he’s still got to get the balance right," Campbell told Football Insider. “But it’s exciting. The win against Bournemouth, the win at Anfield – and ultimately the game against Tottenham, even though they ended up losing.

“They’re conceding far too many goals, but they’re scoring a load too. I think they should stick with him. If they do it will be a real ride for the Leeds United fans, but it will be a good spectacle.

“A lot of people might look at Jesse Marsch and say he hasn’t done a good job. I think he’s done a brilliant job. When he came in, they looked dead and buried – and they haven’t spent a fortune. He needs a couple of transfer windows.”

Chris Sutton gives 'too risky' verdict on ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa's Bournemouth link

Former Premier League striker and BBC pundit Chris Sutton has said that he doesn't want Marcelo Bielsa to take the Bournemouth job as it'd be 'too risky'.

The 67-year-old has been without a job since he left Leeds United in February after a poor start to the season where he was replaced by Jesse Marsch.

Bielsa seems to be the Cherries' favourite to become their new manager, replacing interim boss Gary O'Neil who himself replaced Scott Parker after he was sacked four games into the season following a 9-0 loss to Liverpool.

Points to prove at Leeds United with contracts, international spots and futures to play for

The Premier League has reached a halfway point, of sorts, and across the division clubs, players and managers will be plotting how to make improvements when the action resumes once more. Those at Leeds United will be no different and Jesse Marsch has a crucial few weeks ahead of him on the Thorp Arch training field before Man City travel to Elland Road on December 28.

He’ll be keen to see every member of his squad kick on and make improvements, but it’s a clear a number of players have a point to prove over the second half of the season, too. Here, Leeds Live look at just some of those who will be striving to make a statement in the coming months.

Mateusz Klich

Klich has every right to be frustrated with how his season has gone so far after playing nothing more than a bit-part role under Marsch. The head coach hasn’t named him in a Premier League starting XI this campaign and the Polish international has seen his game time limited as a result.

Tales from the Bay - San Francisco 49ers head overseas as they eye NFC West top spot

The San Francisco 49ers have not played an international game since their dominant 2013 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley. That will change on Monday, but the makeup of the team and the location will be markedly different.

Nine years ago, it was Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore and Patrick Willis helping inspire the Niners to a 42-10 win in a season that would end in San Francisco progressing to a third successive NFC Championship Game.

No players from that team remain on the roster and, rather than being tasked with excelling in London in late October as that 49ers team did, San Francisco will have to contend with the balmier climate and altitude of Mexico City as they face NFC West rivals the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca in the final international game of 2022.

Leeds United's problem position that has plagued them in recent years

It's somewhat obvious to everyone now that Leeds United have been struggling to find themselves a good, consistent left-back in recent seasons - but why is it such a standout issue?

Despite signing more than five left-backs since Victor Orta came into the club in the summer of 2017, none of them have seemed to truly stick the landing.

With reports saying that one of Jesse Marsch's main targets in the January transfer window is a left-back, many are wondering who will be the next candidate to take the seemingly-cursed position.
